One Step From Forever
Chapter 1
In a banquet hall where the upper crust gathered, Jason Ford was the center of attention. Everyone congratulated him for being selected by a renowned director to take the lead role in an upcoming movie despite debuting not too long ago.
Sirius Ford, who should've been the one getting that role, stood in a corner, feeling downtrodden. He finally made up his mind. "I want to return to my original world, System."
The system was surprised. "What? Your target's affinity level for you has already reached 99%. Once you hit 100%, you'll complete your mission, and your wish will come true. You're only 1% away from success. Don't you want to give it one more shot?"
Sirius shook his head bitterly. "No. I just want to go home."
His target, Maisie Seaworth, had increased her investment in the film tenfold just to convince the director to switch Sirius out for Jason. Even at the banquet, she stuck by Jason's side and looked at him with a love-filled gaze.
This just proved that certain things couldn't be achieved, no matter how hard one worked. Sirius was only 1% away from success, but his mission was doomed to fail.
The system sighed. "It's a pity. You're only one step away from changing your fate… I've already submitted your request. You can leave this world in a month, so take this time to reconsider. You can change your mind any time before then."
"Alright. Thanks."
The night breeze gently caressed Sirius' face, bringing his thoughts to the past. He wasn't from this world—the system had brought him here and told him that he would be granted one wish upon returning to his original world if he completed his mission, which was to max out his affinity level with anyone in this world.
He had an important wish he wanted to come true, so he'd worked hard to achieve his goal. Initially, he'd set his sights on his parents in this world. Unfortunately, not all parents loved their children. In fact, his parents were cruel to him.
In order to make Sirius find a sugar mommy—or daddy—and get into the entertainment industry so he could make money for them, they'd introduced him to rich men and women in the upper crust with odd fetishes.
One man in particular had circled him with his subordinates, wanting to take advantage of him. As despair washed over him, someone had reached out to pull him behind them.
Sirius had turned to see a tall woman in a white dress standing before him. It was only later that he found out her name was Maisie Seaworth. She was one of Octo City's renowned CEOs, and she owned an entertainment agency.
She'd icily ordered her assistant to deal with the man before pulling Sirius away. She'd dropped him off at home and given him her business card before leaving. "I own an entertainment agency, Mr. Ford. It won't hurt for you to consider me."
Maisie's expression had been on the aloof side, but she'd smile faintly when speaking to him, adding a hint of gentleness to her features. Their fingers had brushed against each other, and Sirius' heart had skipped a beat.
Later, when signing a contract with her, he discovered he was the only artist signed to Seaworth Entertainment. Maisie used all the resources at her disposal to turn him into a star and hired the best teachers in the industry to train him.
Sirius had once asked her why she treated him so well. She'd caressed his face and said, "Some people only need a single glance to tell that they want to spend the rest of their lives with a certain someone."
Maisie had proposed to him after the premier of the first movie in which he'd starred.
"Your career is just taking off, so we shouldn't go public with our relationship," she'd said. Despite the marriage being a secret, she'd still shown him that she was sincere about wanting to be with him.
Maisie, dressed in a pure white gown, had stood in a room filled with expensive roses imported from somewhere. She'd put a ring worth two million dollars on his finger and asked him to marry her.
Fireworks lit up the sky throughout the night—they were just for him. Sirius and Maisie shared a kiss before the window while admiring the fireworks before spending a passionate night together.
Maisie had always been aloof, but she was particularly lustful that night. She gave him searing kisses and kept calling him "honey".
She'd sounded so deeply in love with him, and her eyes had reflected that. At that moment, looking into her eyes, Sirius was sure they loved each other. That was also when he'd set her as his target.
Soon, her affinity level for him reached 99%. Sirius was only 1% away from success, but things went stagnant there.
He felt like it was only right for him to take that last step since Maisie had already taken 99 steps in his direction. He gave her his heart and treated her better than he'd ever treated anyone else. He'd even started wondering whether he really wanted to leave after completing his mission.
However, five years had passed since then, and Maisie's affinity level remained at 99%.
Sirius couldn't understand it. Then, one day, he returned home earlier than planned after a canceled gig. That was when everything had changed.
As he stood in the foyer, he heard his parents in this world, Steven Ford and Lila White, talking to Maisie.
"Sirius is nothing but a substitute. Back then, we played along with your act to save him just to amuse you, yet you insisted on marrying him. What are you going to do now that Jason is back?"
"Jason and Sirius are both our sons, but Jason is our pride and joy. You can't do him wrong over something like this, Maisie. No one else matters but him."
Sirius stopped, feeling dumbstruck. The original Sirius had suffered some sort of shock and lost a portion of his memories when the system had brought him here, so he only vaguely remembered having an older brother named Jason. The latter had been living abroad.
It seemed it wasn't that Steven and Lila didn't know how to love their child—it was just that they'd given all their love to Jason.
Maisie was silent for a moment. Then, she said, "Back then, Jason left without a word. I don't want to experience the pain of losing the person I love again, so I want to keep Sirius by my side, even if he's just a substitute."
"I was too arrogant back then, Maisie. That's why I wanted to leave you to see the world. But I'm tired now, and I want to settle down," said a young man.
Sirius took a few steps forward when he heard that. He caught the look of tenderness and heartache on Maisie's usually stoic face.
"It's time to come home since you're tired, Jace. I set up an entertainment agency for you because you mentioned you wanted to join the entertainment industry. Now, you can return and continue to pursue your dream," she said.
Jason looked sorrowed. "No, I shouldn't. You claim you established the agency for me, but you already have another artist signed to the label."
Maisie explained anxiously, "You know I only did it because Sirius resembles you. I took him on because I thought of him as your substitute. He can't compare to you!"
"But you two are already married."
"Don't you know how I truly feel? Anyone can become my husband, but you're the only person special to me."
Sirius listened quietly from the foyer and watched as Maisie pulled Jason into her arms. They looked into each other's eyes and talked about how much they'd missed each other. They basked in the joy of being reunited after so many years apart.
Suddenly, he realized that the nights he and Maisie had been entangled together had all been lies. Despite being in bed with him and calling him "honey", her mind had been on Jason.
She'd kissed him and hugged him, but her heart had beat for another man. Even their first meeting, which he'd thought was a turning point in his life, had been nothing but a scheme.
It explained why Sirius just couldn't complete his mission. He suddenly found himself laughable—he was nothing but a substitute, yet he'd dreamed of making Maisie give him her whole heart.
Chapter 2
"You two should get back together now that Jason is back for good," Steven said.
"Exactly! Since we're here, how about you two kiss and make up? We can act as your witnesses," Lila added excitedly.
The atmosphere was harmonious and joyful. Sirius stood only a few steps away, but he felt cold all over.
As Maisie's and Jason's faces drew closer, Sirius lost the courage to continue watching. He fled, lying to himself that nothing had happened as long as he hadn't seen anything.
He only mustered the courage to head home late that night, wanting to ask Maisie how she would handle this love triangle. To his dismay, she wasn't even at home. She'd spent the night outside on Jason's first night back.
The following day, Sirius headed to Seaworth Entertainment to see Maisie enter the building hand in hand with Jason. She said, "Jason is a new artist signed to our label, and our focus will shift to helping him gain popularity. Make sure to give him your full attention, everyone."
Jason smiled at Sirius. "Long time no see, my dear brother. Thank you for caring for Mom and Dad in my absence, and I'm also eternally grateful that you've taken such good care of Maisie for me. I can't imagine how devastated she would've been without me if you hadn't been there for her."
Despite his calm tone, there was no hiding the provocation in his words. He was almost telling Sirius to his face that he was a mere substitute.
The employees were stunned and waited to see what Maisie had to say about that. To their surprise, she didn't rebuke Jason.
Instead, she said, "That reminds me, Jace. You and Sirius have similar styles, so you'll clash. Sirius will adopt a different style in the future and walk a different path. He can pull off the sexy look, go for a fresh-faced style, or even go wild. Whatever it is, he won't be the same as you."
The stark contrast in her treatment of Jason and Sirius made it clear how she felt about them. It also made Sirius' blood run cold.
After that day, Jason kept taking Sirius' gigs because he knew he had Maisie on his side. He took Sirius' advertisements, variety shows, roles…
Sirius had tried to fight back, but Maisie had only told him off for being selfish. Then, she'd given everything to Jason.
Jason even wanted to take Sirius' manager and assistant despite having his own. When Maisie heard, she said without hesitation, "Jace has just joined the industry, so it's better to have more people watching out for him. As for Sirius, there's no need to waste resources on him since he doesn't have anything to do right now."
Sirius had gained many fans throughout his five years in the entertainment industry. Maisie had instructed the PR department to shut them up by announcing that he was taking a break due to health concerns.
…
The sound of heels clacking on the floor pulled Sirius out of his reverie.
"Do you know how much it means to Jace to get this role, Sirius? You're his family—why aren't you happy for him? Why are you standing here looking so downcast? For whom are you putting on this act?" Maisie snapped.
Sirius found it ironic. It turned out he didn't even have the right to be sad when he wasn't the one she loved. He said calmly, "I'm not putting on an act for anyone. I just think I deserve to be sad when you've had me switched out for someone despite me passing the audition."
A trace of guilt flashed across Maisie's face. Just then, Jason hurried over. "We're brothers, Sirius, yet I didn't know you only thought of me as someone else. I must've done something wrong to make you hate me so…"
He bit his lip, his sorrowful appearance tugging at Maisie's heart. When she turned back to Sirius, her expression turned into one of anger. "I can't believe you're heartless enough to hurt your brother's feelings, Sirius. Since you're not here to wish him well, you're not welcome. Get lost and reflect on your mistakes."
This had already happened countless times. All Jason had to do was say a few words to make Maisie lose her rationality. She didn't hesitate to have Sirius kicked out while everyone was watching—she didn't care whether he would feel humiliated.
However, Sirius no longer felt sad as he would have in the past. He merely turned away indifferently and left the banquet hall.
Maisie was taken aback by his abnormal behavior. She couldn't help thinking something was off.
Just then, Jason nudged her. "Come and have a drink with the director with me, Maisie."
"Okay."
She pushed the thought out of her mind.
…
When Sirius got home, he checked the trending topics on Twitter and saw one about Maisie and Jason. It went, "Maisie Seaworth and Jason Ford—a fairy tale come true!"
There were various tweets about their mutual love. The online community lapped it up, cooing over their sweet interactions.
There was also a trending topic about himself. It went, "Sirius Ford loses in love and his career."
He and Maisie had never gone public with their marriage, so everyone mocked him for the current situation. They spread rumors about him being shelved because he'd tried and failed to win Maisie's heart. They also claimed he'd tried to get between her and Jason.
This was now a common occurrence, but Maisie had never clarified the matter. She'd stood by and allowed him to get caught in the storm.
Sirius locked his phone and silently printed out a divorce agreement. Since he was going to leave this world soon, he wanted to have a clean break. He would end this unacknowledged marriage and deregister his social security account.
Once he left, Sirius Ford would cease to exist.
The following morning, he called the relevant authorities to ask about the deregistration process. After finding out that he could apply for it online and get it done in a month, he immediately got to work.
"It's perfect timing. The day everything is complete is the day I leave," he murmured.
"What's this about leaving?" Maisie's voice rang out behind him.
Chapter 3
Sirius turned to see Maisie, who had returned after staying out the whole night. Jason was with her, but Sirius found that he wasn't sad anymore. He said, "I saw a bird fly away. It left."
Maisie sighed in relief, but it was almost imperceptible. "That makes sense. Where can you go when your family is here?"
Sirius found it ironic. His "family" in this world was indeed with him, but none of them loved him. Fortunately, he would soon be reunited with his actual family.
Maisie instructed the maids to pack her things. Something odd surged in her when she noticed how unaffected Sirius looked.
"Jace needs to get more exposure since he's just landed a lead role," she explained. "I'm going to take him to a few tourist hot spots so more people can see him."
Jason smiled and linked arms with her. "Ms. Seaworth cares about her employees a lot, doesn't she? She's a great boss."
Maisie patted his chest tenderly. "Of course I am."
He coughed softly. She immediately asked, "Is your throat okay? Are you thirsty?"
One of the maids went to get Jason a drink, but Maisie stopped her. "I'll do it. You guys don't know what Jace likes."
She'd always been on the receiving end of this treatment, but she didn't hesitate as she headed to the kitchen to get a glass of water. She added some honey to it before handing it to Jason. Her actions were so smooth and familiar that it was clear she'd done it many times before.
Sirius had never seen this side of her—she'd never treated him with such care, whether in work or their personal lives.
Seaworth Entertainment was only one of the many companies Maisie owned. When Sirius had been the only artist on the label, she had rarely interfered in its operations and left everything to the team. She had claimed this was because she wanted to leave the professional stuff to those who knew what they were doing.
But after Jason had joined the agency, she'd attended to everything in person. She was a CEO but was more detailed than a secretary could be.
"It's so sweet." Jason smiled and rubbed his belly.
Maisie immediately understood what he meant. "You're hungry, right? I'll go make your favorite sunny side up."
She left, and Sirius watched her dazedly. One day after they'd gotten married, he'd suggested that they cook together. He thought it was a nice activity that could bring them closer.
However, Maisie had rejected him without hesitation, saying that she hated the smell of the oil in the kitchen. She also said it was inappropriate for her to cook since she was the CEO of a company.
Yet there she was, running off to cook for Jason without the slightest bit of reluctance. It turned out that she wasn't unwilling to cook—she just hadn't wanted to do it with or for Sirius. That was probably the difference between being loved and not.
"Are you jealous of me, Sirius?" Now that Maisie wasn't around, Jason dropped his act. The hostility and cruelty in his eyes were evident. "It's too bad it doesn't mean anything. You're nothing but a substitute, so you'll never win Maisie's heart.
"That's why I can't understand why you're still sticking around. How much longer do you want to hold on to something that isn't yours? Maisie said you can't compare to me, even in bed. She said you're boring and that she only feels complete when I'm in her. It makes her feel free."
Jason's words were full of provocation, but Sirius no longer felt jealous. He even smiled mockingly before saying, "Tell her to divorce me if you're in such a rush to take my place."
He already had a divorce agreement ready. He would go along with her if a divorce was what she wanted.
Jason's eyes flashed with diffidence and anger. Then, he sneered and said, "She will! But before that, I have to make you pay for hoarding my spot for so long!"
Chapter 4
Jason's expression suddenly turned panicked. He was a better actor than he made others think.
"Don't be mad, Sirius," he said. "Nothing happened between Maisie and me last night—we were only discussing the script. Don't take this out on her. Come at me if you're angry!"
He ended with a pained shout and fell backward onto the floor, twisting his ankle in the process. Just then, Maisie came out of the kitchen with the sunny side up.
"What the hell did you do to Jace, Sirius?" She threw the plate at Sirius in her fury, making his forehead bleed. The egg yolk burst on his head and trickled down his hair, mingling with the blood.
The liquid was hot and sticky. It blurred his vision. He felt bitter as he said softly, "I didn't do anything to him."
Even if Maisie only thought of him as a substitute, they'd still spent five years together. He thought she would know what he was like, but it seemed she didn't trust him at all.
Maisie was taken aback when she saw the state Sirius was in. His forehead was swollen and bleeding, his eyes red. For some reason, she found herself feeling sorry. She wanted to reach up to wipe the blood away, but Jason stopped her.
"My ankle hurts, Maisie. Has it been fractured?" He hissed in pain and caught hold of her hand, sounding choked up. "Don't blame Sirius for this—he only did it because he was upset. Everything's still my fault."
Maisie's heart twisted painfully when she saw him speaking up for Sirius despite his pain. "You haven't done anything wrong, Jace! How can you be wrong when we're just in love with each other? He's wrong for even existing!"
She turned back to Sirius, her gaze ice-cold. "Get on your knees and apologize to Jason, Sirius," she commanded. "I'll let this matter pass once you do it."
Sirius started, "I didn't—"
"Forget it, Maisie," Jason interrupted. "It's nothing big—I can take this. My ankle really hurts… It's not broken, is it?"
"Does it hurt that badly? I'll take you to the hospital right now." Maisie carefully helped Jason up before kicking Sirius and making him fall to his knees. "Stay there, and don't you dare move. I'll get even with you and make you apologize later!"
Her heel was sharp, and it stabbed Sirius like a knife. He was caught off guard and fell to his knees, landing on the glass shards of the broken plate. Pain coursed through him, and tears welled in his eyes.
Maisie stopped, a trace of regret flashing in her eyes. "Why are you crying? Does it hurt?"
She wanted to check on him, but Jason tightened his hold on her. "I'm so jealous of Sirius for being such a good actor—he can cry on command! His acting skills really are a gift from the heavens.
"I'm not like that—I'm so dumb that I can barely pull off a crying scene. I'm so thankful you're by my side to help me, Maisie."
Tears rolled down his face as he spoke. His words made Maisie return to her senses. She knew Jason wasn't good at crying scenes, so he had to be in immense pain if he was sobbing so earnestly.
On the other hand, Sirius was well-known for his acting skills. He was only putting on an act to garner pity! She'd almost fallen for it.
"Stop your scheming, Sirius! I'm warning you—I won't let you off the hook if you touch another hair on Jason's head!" she snapped. Then, she pulled Jason closer and left with him.
This was such a familiar scene. Maisie had done the same thing during her first meeting with Sirius—she'd wrapped an arm around him and taken him away from the danger. Yet now, she was protecting someone else and leaving him with nothing but injuries.
Despite already deciding to take back his love for her, Sirius still felt like a fist had clenched around his heart and squeezed hard. It hurt like hell.
Since Maisie had already made her stance clear, the maids followed her example and steered clear of Sirius. None of them helped as he limped upstairs to disinfect and bandage his wounds.
At the same time, Maisie and Jason made the trending topics. She'd reserved a whole floor at the hospital and summoned countless experts to check his ankle. She was in a good mood upon learning he was fine, so she had her assistant set up a lucky draw on Seaworth Group's official website.
It was almost as if she wanted the whole world to celebrate with her since Jason was unharmed. When Sirius saw everyone leaving comments and thanking Jason for this, he texted Maisie. "Let's get a divorce."
She'd always taken a long time to reply to his messages, but this time, her answer came almost instantaneously.
Chapter 5
"Don't think you can catch Maisie's attention by acting like you're going to leave, Sirius. She's showering now, so stop texting her and disturbing us. I bet a substitute like you can't even imagine how happy we are when we're together. Keep an eye on the trending topics, then."
The reply was from Jason. Maisie had never allowed Sirius to touch her phone, let alone tell him her password. It looked like Jason would always be her only exception.
Sirius didn't reply.
As Jason had mentioned, he and Maisie started making the trending topics every other day starting the next day. They were caught being affectionate with each other and interacting sweetly.
They visited popular cafés, took selfies on a Ferris wheel, caught the sunset on a hill…
Those were things Sirius had always wanted to do with her, but she'd never agreed. Yet there she was, looking excited while doing them with Jason.
Fortunately, those things no longer hurt Sirius. The day of his departure was approaching, so he only wanted to complete one more thing before then.
He was an actor in this world. Initially, Steven and Lila had forced him into it. Later, he'd continued with it because he didn't want to let Maisie down. However, scriptwriting was where his true passion lay, not acting.
After gaining experience over the past five years, he'd written his own script. Short dramas were the trend nowadays, and he'd written a script for one based on his own life. It was titled "Lonely No More".
It didn't take long to film short dramas—a week or two was enough to wrap things up. Sirius wanted to leave behind something that was meaningful to him, so he got to work.
He was efficient and quickly set up a team. All he needed to do was head home to pack some things before heading to the set and commencing filming.
He sensed the lively atmosphere as soon as he entered the house. Everyone was there—his parents, Jason, and Maisie. Their smiles froze when they saw him.
Then, Steven and Lila greeted him warmly and asked him to join them for dinner. This was surprising because they'd never cared about him.
Maisie even gave him a box. "I saw it during our trip and thought it suited you."
Sirius recognized it as a tie clip that he'd seen on the trending topics. He remembered that she'd bought all the tie clips in that particular store because Jason had told her that he'd liked one of them. This tie clip, in particular, was the only one he'd discarded.
"What's wrong? Don't you like it?" Jason asked, the smugness in his eyes evident.
Maisie's gaze darkened. "Are you starting to be picky now? I remember you loving everything that I got you in the past."
She was right. She'd given Sirius expensive watches and fallen leaves, but he'd loved them all. The reason was simple—he'd loved the person giving the items to him.
But now, things were different. He wouldn't like any gift from her, even if it were a star from the sky, let alone something Jason had discarded.
"It's pretty nice." Sirius didn't want to waste his breath. He accepted the box and put it away. His mind was still on the things he had to do before commencing filming.
Jason was surprised to see him so calm. The photos of Maisie buying him the tie clips had been on the trending topics for so long that he was sure Sirius would've seen them. Yet the latter wasn't mad or upset—it was almost as if he no longer cared.
Maisie also noticed this. Her heart clenched, and she couldn't help thinking something was wrong somewhere. She was about to ask Sirius what was wrong when Jason tugged on her sleeve and blinked at her. He was hinting at something.
Only then did she remember the reason for the gathering that night. She looked at Sirius and said, "Jace loves the new short drama you've been working on. Let him act in it this time."
He looked at her in disbelief. He couldn't do anything about her forcing him to give up his gigs so Jason could have them, but this was different. The short drama was based on a script he'd written himself, and the team was one he'd put together. Did Jason want to take even this from him?
When Sirius didn't immediately agree, Steven and Lila deigned to put some food on his plate.
"It's not a big deal, so just do as Maisie says. Stop trying to take everything away from Jason."
"Jason's been through so much hardship that it's only right for us to give him whatever he wants. We're his family, after all."
It was then that Sirius realized people really would laugh when they were speechless. He laughed mockingly and said, "I'm not the one who caused Jason's hardship. Besides, a scriptwriter considers every script they write to be their child. I'm not giving this up."
Jason lowered his eyes and sighed. "I knew you didn't like me. Perhaps I should never have returned."
He stood up and made to leave, but Maisie grabbed his hand and stopped him. Her gaze was icy as she looked at Sirius. "Jace has already asked some experts to read the script—it has a high potential of becoming the next big thing, so you have to give it to him.
"You're part of my company, so you must do as I say. Otherwise, I can exercise my right to have you benched."
"Do it, then," Sirius said.
Steven and Lila grew angry when they saw how stubborn he was being.
"Don't bother being so nice to the brat, Maisie. We're his parents, so we know what he's scared of. Leave this to us," Steven said.
"Yeah. Just wait—we'll make him cry and beg Jason to act in his drama!" Lila snarled.
Chapter 6
Lila said to the maids, "Go catch some bugs like cockroaches, moths, and caterpillars. The more, the better."
"Rats, too. Make sure they're alive. Sirius is scared of those," Steven added.
Sirius jolted as some memories he'd lost suddenly appeared in his mind. In the past, Steven and Lila would unleash their rage on the original Sirius and get physical with him if he were to defy them. Then, they would capture various disgusting creatures and stuff them into his mouth.
Thanks to this long-term torment, the original Sirius had become obedient and compliant to a fault. It was hard to imagine there could be such biased and cruel parents in the world.
The maids looked conflicted. "The house is clean, so we won't find things like that here…"
Maisie said, "Go out and look for them, then. You have to get them, no matter how troublesome."
Jason's eyes gleamed with happiness and cruelty. He leaned against her and said, "You treat me so well, Maisie."
The four of them looked so united in their common hatred for Sirius. Suddenly, he realized he didn't need to be like this. The script had been written based on his and Maisie's story, but he couldn't use that to lie to himself anymore.
Even if Maisie's affinity level for him had hit 99%, he was still nothing more than a worthless substitute. His and Maisie's love story had already ended badly—he no longer wanted a story with a bad ending and a woman who wasn't worth his time.
Since he was alone in this world, he was better off letting go rather than being tormented and forced into doing things he didn't want.
"I'll give it up."
Everyone should've been pleased now that he'd caved, but Jason was still dissatisfied. "You just said that your script is like your child, yet you're giving it up just like that. It can't be because you have something nasty planned, right?"
Maisie warned, "You'd better not pull anything funny, Sirius. Name your conditions if you have them."
They really wanted to push him off the edge, huh?
When he thought of the divorce agreement he'd yet to sign, an idea occurred to him. He said, "Of course I have conditions. Since you guys want my hard work, you'll need to give me something in exchange."
He listed various properties and storefronts before looking at Maisie. "I'm sure you won't mind parting with a few things in exchange for a script, right? Your love for Jason should mean more to you than material things."
His words made Maisie's hesitance disappear. "Of course I don't mind. Anything that can be resolved with money isn't an issue."
She made a call, and her secretary soon arrived with a thick stack of ownership transfer agreements. Sirius took them from her and slipped the divorce agreement between two contracts.
Jason's heart ached when he saw that Maisie was about to sign the agreements. "It's not worth spending so much on a script, Maisie…"
He'd only used the valuation of the script as an excuse—he just wanted to take everything Sirius had.
To his dismay, Maisie signed them without even batting an eye. She gave away assets worth billions of dollars just like that. If he'd known things would've ended up like this, he wouldn't have snatched the project from Sirius.
However, Maisie misunderstood him. She prodded his chest and said, "Of course it's worth it, silly. Anything is worth it as long as it makes you happy, Jace."
She signed the agreements one after another. Sirius' heart leaped to his throat when he saw that the next one was the divorce agreement.
Just then, she looked up. Her odd feeling returned when she saw the nervous look on his face. For some reason, it made her feel a little anxious. It was almost as if she would lose something after signing the agreement.
She flipped the page, wanting to check its contents.
